About Ellsy
Born a Fire horse in 1966, Ellsy has been ignited by fire her whole life. Now 60, she creates in the wilderness of her music and performance art. Always experimenting, ever curious, she plays multiple instruments, sings and loops live in engaging and powerful music as a one-woman band, all driven by the forces of nature within her.
Whether it's the explosive drive of a distorted guitar, the wistful yearnings of the cello, melodic piano notes, synth strangeness or metallic beats, she brings these together in her songs and expressions with fearlessness, raw emotion and integrity.
Eclectic, soul-driven and cinematic, her genre is best defined as Art Rock as she draws on influences of classical, rock and avant-garde to merge sound and emotion, while simultaneously expressing in thought provoking and cryptic lyrics.
A Toronto based artist, she was in earlier decades a professional Contemporary Dancer, performing and choreographing in Canada and abroad for 25 years, while also playing her cello recreationally. Now, fully transitioned into her music creation, she brings the elements of physicality and performance art along with her, integrating them in her videos and music performances.
While driven experimentally in endless curiosity in her studio and single releases, Ellsy brings another side of herself when performing for the neighbourhoods and markets in Toronto. Live looping and engaging audiences young and old, she creates upbeat, inspiring music with her multiple instruments creating an ignited atmosphere that is both unique and accessible.
Ellsy is currently in production of her first EP, Gods and Monsters, and will be releasing it later in 2026. In the meantime she brings her live performances to audiences in Toronto via Art festivals, markets, street performances and concerts.
